Yep – we’re looking for some local folks to join in our brainstorming sessions and keep our ideas and viewpoints fresh. Take a look here to see a few details about what we’re looking for. (The position will be posted for 1 week.)
Want to know what you’ll be naming?
We’ve named stuff like Polish medical suppliers, Los Angeles advertising agencies, New York software companies, and we’re currently naming a Mid-Western hotel on behalf of one of the biggest gaming companies in the world.
[Edit: The next project is probably going to be within the next couple weeks. We're naming a Gen-X focused night spot. We'll be looking for eXers to brainstorm with!]
Want a piece of the action? Give us a piece of your mind!
[Edit Redux: We're adding in the original text of the Craigslist post here since it'll probably go away in the near future. Enjoy!]
Writers, poets, painters, copy editors, strategists, dancers, linguists, philosophers…
Boutique naming and branding firm looking for artistic/creative individuals willing to spend an occasional day speaking their minds. You bring your opinions, creativity, willingness to speak your mind. We bring you time with other great minds, some cash, and all the pizza (or other easy-to-find food) you can eat.
Qualifications:
• You have opinions and you like to share them
• You’re comfortable having your opinions challenged
• You do something creative for your hobby or your vocation
• You’ve achieved some level of recognition, notoriety, or infamy for your creative ideas, be it from local press, your mother, or Time Magazine
• You’re willing to tell us about yourself in a way other than a traditional (and completely boring) résumé
• You’re available on short notice (usually 1 week in advance) to spend a weekend day or a weeknight with us in the DC metro area
Compensation:
• Depends on the project and your level of experience. Looking to get rich? This probably isn’t the project for you. Looking for a learning experience, a chance to be creative, some good conversation, and to have some extra spending cash? That we can help you with.
Please note that this is not an offer for full time employment. We’re renting your minds here, not buying or leasing them.
Want to know a bit more about us? You can check out our website at http://www.stokefire.com Maybe even take a look at our blog (http://www.stokefire.com/blog) and post a few thoughts…
How do you apply? First, don’t call us. You can post-mail something (we’re sure you can figure out our address), you can respond to this post, you can send us a singing telegram (though now that we’ve mentioned that last one you won’t get points for creativity there…) or anything else that gets your creative talents across without making us want to call in the police.
We’ll do our best to contact everyone that responds.

The hotel should be named the “Fortune”
or the “Galaxy” or the “Platinum Paradise”, the “Players Palace” or the “Golden Goose”, the “Metropolis” or
the “Utopia”, the “Lucky streak” or the “Secret”
Thanks Morris! Interesting ideas – all.
When we do our naming brainstorms we provide a much deeper understanding of the product or service to be named – so you’ll know whether you’re marketing to senior citizens or Gen-exers. Makes it much easier to narrow the focus when you know who is going to be laying out the cash to use the product – and how much cash they’ll need to lay out.
Thanks for your input!
My favorite name of recent times is “Current” (TV network) It hits on many different levels. Now that is the kind of name I’d like to come up with for you.
Yes, naming is not that easy, although the gut reaction is a great way to begin. At first glance I like Morris’ name of “Fortune” for the casino, but would like to incorporate the mid-west location and know more about the local culture and target audience.
What more can you tell us about them?

Love the direction you’ve taken. We’ve already passed the hotel project into the final phase, but the bar could use ideas like that.
Unfortunately we can’t put our guidance and thoughts for work in progress on the blog. We’d be at risk of losing trademark or website availability and our clients wouldn’t be happy with us.
We provide more guidance during our onsite sessions so we can be sure we’re developing the right sort of ideas, be they edgy, conservative, or bizzare.
…and BTW… we like your interior design ideas. Contact us next March when we’re likely moving to more permanent digs. We’d like to know more about you.
