Names in the News: Drilling for Healthcare Technology?

We wish we could have been a fly on the wall for this one:

National Healthcare Technology Inc. (OTCBB:NHCT) is pleased to announce that the Board of Directors has selected a new company name — Brighton Oil Inc. The Board has approved the name change and will recommend that the shareholders approve the same, and upon doing so the company shall officially cause the name change to Brighton Oil Inc.

Talk about a change of direction. One day you’re curing cancer and the next you’re drilling for oil?

Actually, after looking at this one a bit more we’re even more confused. Yahoo says they’re a 2 person drug company that makes stone veneers. Another site lists them as in the “professional and management services” business.

Wow.

Anyone care to venture a guess as to what this company actually does well?

Our money is on making slippery stone flooring that doesn’t hurt you when you fall. There’s a distinctive specialty in search of an audience…

Brighton oil lists the following as their business success factors:

Our Business Success Factors
* The right people with the right skills
* A prudent approach to solutions
* A clear vision[...]

While National Healthcare Technology

…is a global biotechnology company that discovers, develops, manufactures and markets important human therapeutics based on advances in cellular and molecular biology.

How can you be a successful oil company with a clear vision if you’re looking at human therapeutics?

If we could figure out how medicine and oil go together we might know what skills and people were needed. If we knew what they were trying to solve we could figure out if they were prudent, and if we understood if what it was they were looking at we possibly could determine if their view of same was actually clear.

We don’t see a clear vision here. We have no clue whether or not they have the right people or approach. We’re completely flummoxed by the name change and random stuff the two (or is it one?) companies seem to be doing.

Another random thing from the Brighton Oil website. They provide “QUICK LINKS” to various financial entities like NYSE and Bloomberg, but they aren’t listed on any of these services. Might as well link us to cuteness for all the good it does us. Though some may argue that cuteness provides at least a little bit of benefit…

Here’s a company that needs to get a hold on its brand. Not only do we not understand what they do best, we couldn’t even fathom what they do at all.

Here’s to fewer slip-and-fall lawsuits!
