For about 9 minutes yesterday at least two of Stokefire’s logo designs reached the outer edge of our atmosphere. Both took a ride on a Minotaur IV rocket, and one travelled on an aircraft at twice the speed of a bullet (Mach 20!) thanks to the talented engineers at the US Air Force and DARPA.
Here’s a pre-takeoff photo from Vandenberg Air Force Base:
Below I’ve linked to a video with a simulation of the planned HTV-2 flight. You don’t have to watch closely catch a low-resolution glimpse (or six glimpses) as the video switches between the phases of the flight plan. (And a bit of continuity-related trivia for you… If you do happen to look closely you’ll see that the logo on the simulated HTV-2 flight vehicle is different than the one designed by our team – and that the logo is missing from the animated Minotaur IV rocket completely.)
Stay tuned for a bit more insight on the project in the next few weeks. We haven’t done a live markup for a while. Maybe we can squeeze this one in. And if all this stuff has just made you impatient to see the actual work we did you can see the logo much more clearly in this blog post about consensus.
