Thingnamer Banner

September 15, 2006 | Tate Linden

Inpatient Medical Services announced a slew of changes this week - including a new name and new leadership. While we can't comment on the new leader, the name is worthy of comment.

"Our new name is more reflective of our services and the timing of this re-branding initiative coincides perfectly with the addition of Ted as our new CEO," noted company founder, Dr. Philip Sanger.

The new name? Intercede Health.

While the word "intercede" doesn't scream "immediate branding success" to us,

we like the connotative aspect. The name isn't exactly descriptive, but evokes images of doctors rushing to our aid in our time of need. It also has what appears to be a deep well of marketing opportunities based off of the meaning of the word, hidden/implied words ("enter," "seed," etc...), and associations with the core meaning (such as intersessions that involve a group of people who care deeply about an individual.)

So - we give it a thumbs up. Nice way to take a completely boring name (Inpatient Medical Services) that sounds more like a department you'd find at any hospital and turn it into something that is more obviously a company with a defined goal.

If you know who was behind the rebranding let us know and we'll offer up the appropriate props.

Have a great weekend!

I am intrigued by Intercede Health. Essentially, hospitals hire this company to get expensive patients out of the hospital. May I try a tagline? How about: "Intercede Health...for when that sick patient just won't die."

Sadly, that tagline might actually bring them business...
